The studio
A small studio, one firing at a time
Kiln is two potters and a gas kiln on the east side of Portland. Every mug, bowl and vase is thrown, trimmed and glazed by hand, then checked before it leaves the shelf. Nothing is made to a quota.

How it is made
Five weeks from clay to your table
01
Throw
Each piece is thrown on the wheel from 1.2 kg of local stoneware, then trimmed after a day of drying.
02
Bisque
A first firing to 980 °C turns soft clay into a porous shell that takes glaze evenly.
03
Glaze
Glazes are mixed in the studio from oxides and ash. No two batches are exactly the same.
04
Fire
A second firing to 1,260 °C vitrifies the body, so it is waterproof and chip-resistant.
05
Check
Every piece is tapped, filled and inspected. Anything with a flaw goes to Studio seconds.
Reviews
Used daily, reviewed by the people who use them
“Six months of daily dishwasher use and not one chip. The glaze looks better than the day it arrived.”
Daniel Mensah

“The foot ring on the noodle bowl is the detail. I can carry it with wet hands and not worry.”
Jonas Lindqvist
Noodle bowl, moss
“Packed so well that the box survived a courier mishap. The vase inside did not notice.”
